Catastrophic Fire
On the night of April 24, 1999, our beloved Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church on Butterfield Street in Lowell, Massachusetts, burned down to the ground. A fire started in a neighboring building and spread to our church. It was a shocking and devastating experience for the community. Members of the Parish immediately vowed to rebuild! After hard work, deliberation by the faithful, guidance from Metropolitan Methodios, and with the help of God, we have a vision for the new church. The site of the Assumption Church will be at a new location on a 2.5-acre site in Dracut, Massachusetts. Construction has begun and we look forward to an opening in August 2002 on the Assumption of the Virgin Mary name day (Panaghia).

We continue to work toward the rebuilding of our new Church. The task at hand is awesome; but our faith and resolve is even greater. Remembering the words of our Lord that all things are possible to those who believe, we shall persevere, hoping for a complete success.
Again, praying for your good health, in behalf of our Assumption of the Virgin Mary parish, we thank you with a sincere heart.
