Hellenic Cultural Center of Lowell Hosts an Evening of Dance and Music in a Celebration of Greek Culture
Several hundred members and friends of The Hellenic Cultural Society of Lowell, Massachusetts were treated to a stirring evening of concert music and dance on Saturday, April 2l, 200l. The 25-piece Hellenic and Near Eastern Musical Society Ensemble performed a repertoire of concert music from scores of Hatzidakis and Theodorakis, adding a few old favorites of the Carl Hatzis Orchestra, including the much-loved song "Rezenda." Members of the audience joined the vocalists in a nostalgic sing-along for several traditional folk songs, capping the concert program with a toe-tapping finale of Kalamatiana dances.
The dedicated and hard-working committee for the Lowell event served a full buffet of Greek food and delicacies following the concert and dance numbers. Headed up by president Erene Koukias, committee members Eve Soroken, Donna Zouzas, Florence Savas, Kunny Pipilas, Frances Cassidy, and Clementine Alexis realized another great success.
The Hellenic Cultural Society of Lowell is one of New England's most dynamic supporters of Hellenic culture and tradition. Each year, the group holds a number of events open both to members and to the general public in support of its mission and goals.
