At our next Dinner-Lecture we are pleased to have as our speaker Prof. Barry Strauss, author of the recently published book The Battle of Salamis: The Naval Encounter That Saved Greece and Western Civilization.He will give an illustrated lecture on the subject of the book. Barry Strauss is currently professor of classics and history at CornellUniversity and an expert on naval warfare. His skill for scholarship and flair in explaining historical events have made him a frequent participant on such TV programs as PBS's series 'The Greeks: Crucible of Civilization," the Discovery Channel's 'Great Battles – Alexander and the Battle of Gaugamela," 'Real Gladiators," 'Who Killed Alexander?" 'The Real Jason," 'Who Killed Julius Caesar?" and in History Channel's 'Unconventional Warfare" and the 'Rise and Fall of Sparta." He has published op-ed pieces in The Washington Post, L.A. Times, and Newsday, and was quoted on the front pages of the Wall Street Journal as well as other major newspapers.

In its latest issue, Odyssey Magazine describes his richly illustrated new book as '... a combination of novelistic flair and careful scholarship as well as a combination of strategic analysis and exciting you-are-there detail… it reads like a classical drama.
