Nick Blackos, 79, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday October 24, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Bayard with Fr. Elias Warren officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery with Military rites by the United States Navy. A Trisagion prayer service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Greek Orthodox Church. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday between 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Nick was born September 7, 1930 in North Platte, NE to Gust J. and Constance “Connie” (Pappas) Blackos. San Diego and San Francisco, Port Director Pearl Harbor, District Craft 14th Naval District and the USS Fletcher. He was honorable discharged march 5, 1956. He married Popee Roussou November 3, 1957 in a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony held in Athens, Greece and made their home in Bridgeport and Scottsbluff, NE. Nick was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Bayard, NE. Survivors include his wife Popee, sons Gus, Lincoln, Tom of Scottsbluff, NE, John, Dallas, TX and Chris, Tampa, FL; grandson Nathan Blackos, Scottsbluff, NE; sisters: Sylvia Goulatis, Portland, ME, Angie Milroy, North Platte, NE and Maria Fleece, Beatrice, NE. He was preceded in death by his father Gust J. Blackos, mother Constance “Connie” Vetes and brother John G. Blackos.
