Transfiguration Church to Dedicate New Building Addition
The Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church will formally dedicate its new building addition on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.
The Transfiguration Family Life Center consists of new classrooms for the parish's Sunday School program, a chapel, new offices and meeting rooms, and an elevator to make the church more accessible to the handicapped.

Greek Genealogy Workshops Held in Somerville, Haverhill, Massachusetts
Hellenic Historical and Genealogical Association (HHGA) offered two free introductory workshops recently in Massachusetts. The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Somerville hosted the first workshop on Saturday, April 19, arranged by Carol Poulos Salvo. The second introductory session took place at Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill on Saturday, May 3, 2003, with refreshments provided by the Philoptohos guild of the parish. Complete Story

Helen Demos Papoutsy, 91, born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on April 30, 1911 to Christos and Margaret Christodoulo Gero Linchy, died on March 17, 2003 at her residence.

“Byzantine Women and Their World” Exhibit at Harvard’s Arthur M. Sackler Museum
Opening at the end of October, this exhibit at the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Harvard University accomplishes the goals it set out to achieve: to explore the daily lives of women in the Byzantine world and to initiate a “fresh discourse . . . by displaying a variety of works of art and other objects and images related to them and their everyday lives.” Filling several rooms, the artefacts of this exhibit speak directly to viewers about women who lived during the many centuries of the Byzantine period. Ahepa Cancels '03 Convention in Athens

Transfiguration Church Welcomes New Pastor
LOWELL, Mass. -- The Rev. Christopher P. Foustoukos will be installed as the new pastor of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios during a special vesper service on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
Father Chris will begin his pastoral duties on Oct. 1 and celebrate his first Divine Liturgy as the Transfiguration’s new pastor on Oct. 6.
Father Chris, 43, was born and raised in Salem, Mass., and is a 1988 graduate of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. He was ordained into the priesthood two years later on Feb. 18, 1990.
Prior to accepting his assignment to Transfiguration, Father Chris was in his fifth year as pastor at the Annunciation Church in Woburn, Mass. Previously, he had served as pastor for seven years at the Annunciation Church in Newburyport, Mass., and before that had served for a little over a year as youth director for the Diocese of Boston.
In 1981, Father Chris graduated from Clark University with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force ROTC program. He then served three years in the Air Force as a missile combat crew commander, achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant.
He is married to the former Claire Theodore of Euclid, Ohio, and they have a 9-year-old son, Peter. They currently reside in Lynnfield.
Skeadas Appointed Philoptochos President
NEW YORK, NY -- His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, announced today the appointment of Mrs. Georgia Skeadas as National President of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. The Society, with over 475 chapters in the United States, is the official philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and was established in 1931 by the then Archbishop and later Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras.
Appointed for a two-year term, Mrs. Skeadas will coordinate with the Philoptochos Executive Committee the work of the National Board in administrating the many philanthropic activities of the Society. These include assistance programs to Archdiocesan institutions such as St. Basil Academy and Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology, as well as programs on national and international levels including the philanthropic work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, UNICEF, a Children's Medical Fund, and many other social service projects that address homelessness, substance abuse, and health issues.
Born and raised in Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Skeadas is a graduate of St. Joseph College in West Hartford. She was a member of the National Philoptochos Board in 1998-2000, a member of diocesan boards in Denver and New Jersey, and she has served in parish Philoptochos chapters in Hartford, Belmont, Calif., Denver and in her current parish of St. Luke in Broomall, Pa. For the past two years she has served as a member of the Archdiocesan Council Executive Committee as an appointee of Archbishop Demetrios. During her term she chaired the Youth Ministry Committee of the Council.
Mrs. Skeadas has been active in many civic organizations including school committees and boards and the Family Service Auxiliary, an organization that provides assistance for seniors, children, and families of abused children and adults. Together with her husband, Christos Skeadas, she co-chaired the 35th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress held in Philadelphia in 2000. Georgia and Christos have been married for twenty-five years and have two children, Peter and Mariana.
