Hartford's Gift to Orthodoxy
The time was Saturday April 2 the day before Palm Sunday of the Eastern Orthodox Church also known as the Saturday of Lazarus, which in the calendar foretells the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The place was the cathedral of St. George in Hartford, CT, the spiritual home of the city's Greek community. The event was the ordination of one of the parish's own members into the first of the three orders of priesthood In the Orthodox faith. And it was a very special occasion because the person entering the clergy was Sarantis Loulakis, who after many years both as a member and president of the St George Parish Council, was now committing himself to a life in the service of his church. Nashua Couple Donates More Than $114,000 in Artwork
Dr. John Dagianis and his wife Dr. Ann Dobbins have donated artwork to Rivier College that includes pieces by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, and other well-known artists. Part of the collection represents what may be the largest collection of works by Erte in the state. Complete Story
Greek Institute Confers Annual Awards
On March 23, The Greek Institute held its annual awards dinner-dance at the 57 Restaurant in Boston, with Pericles Kanaris providing music by contemporary Greek composers, and displays of artwork and books filling the foyer. Papoutsy Couple Receive National Athenagoras Award
Haverhill, MA--Following Divine Liturgy on Sunday, December 16, 2001 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Steven Karidoyanes presented the national Athenagoras Award to Christos and Mary Papoutsy on behalf of the New England Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs.
